    WHAT WE ARE ALL ABOUT

The British Council is Britain's international network for education, governance, networking tools for the human rights community, science and technology, culture and development services, providing individuals and institutions with access to contemporary British ideas and expertise, and providing a forum for cultural dialogue.

In India, the British Council operates as a division of the British High Commission. With offices in the four metropolitan cities and a network of eleven libraries, this is the Council's largest operation in the world.

Besides books, journals and training videos, our libraries also stock children's books and home videos, with a growing emphasis on electronic information resources, with CD-ROMs, multimedia and on-line subscriptions.

The libraries in the network aim to promote partnership between Britain and India by providing information services of the highest British professional standards.

The four regional libraries have under them a total of seven British Libraries, run jointly with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
