How do I become a member of the library?
Answer
Membership is open to anyone who finds our services useful, produces appropriate identification and pays the specified fee. Please do ask staff for the prevailing membership fees. Foreign nationals are required to produce their passports. (Membership application form)

Can I transfer my membership to libraries in other cities?
Answer
Yes, your membership is transferable to the British Council Libraries in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi and also to the British Libraries in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Pune and Thiruvananthapuram. All you need to do is approach the library of your choice with a letter of transfer, which can be obtained, from the circulation counter of our library. You cannot, however, transfer your membership to another individual.

What should I do if I lose or misplace my card?
Answer
Please report the loss of identity cards immediately to the staff. Duplicate identity cards will be issued on payment. While reporting the loss of your Identity card please verify the number of books outstanding in your account. Report here

Yes, you can access the Net for a limited period on a first come, first served basis.

How to do I inform the library about the change in my address?
Answer
Please also keep us informed of any change in your address to help us keep our records up-to-date. You can write, phone, fax, email, come in person or use the on line forms to notify us.

When do I have to return the books or videos I have borrowed?
Answer
Documents borrowed are to be returned on or before the due date stamped on the issue label. An overdue charge will be levied on any book returned after the due date.

How do I extend the due date of the books I have borrowed?
Answer
You can write, phone, fax, email or come in person to renew the loan period of your book. Your books / magazines can be renewed only once. Only the barcode number of the book is required to renew a document. You can now renew your books on line

Can I access books available in other libraries in the network?
Answer
As a member you have access not only to the books of the library of which you are a member, but also that of all the 11 libraries in the India network running to about 400,000 volumes. Our All India catalogue is now available on the Net. You can apply for an inter-library loan of any book available in the network at a nominal charge

Can I reserve books not available on the shelves?
Answer
Yes. Reservation cards are available at the counter at a nominal charge. You are welcome to reserve either the new books on display or books out on loan.

What are the general rules and regulations of the library that I need to know about?
Answer
Admission to the library is restricted to members. Prospective students wishing to make use of ECS will be allowed without membership. However, they are advised to enroll themselves, if they wish to use the service on a regular basis. Library staff have the right to ask users for evidence of membership. So please carry your identity card while coming to the library. You are responsible for the material issued on your library card. Please check all items before they are taken out of the library and report mutilation, or damage, to the staff. You will be asked to pay for items lost or returned in mutilated condition. Similarly loss of books must also be reported immediately.

The centre stocks UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) application forms and standardised British Council division application forms that are accepted by nearly all UK colleges and universities.
